New brand, same sustainability ambition

531 thousand tonnes of CO₂ avoided,
244.2 million Euro of added value distributed to all stakeholders,
201 local projects supported
Milan, Italy, 18 April 2023 – Renantis has published its 2022 Sustainability Report, which outlines the performance achieved and the commitments made during the year on sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.
The report shares the results of Renantis’ economic, social, environmental and governance commitments in relation to its sustainability goals.
Achievements from 2022 include:
- 40% increase in added value distributed to all the company’s stakeholders compared to 2021 (from €174.8 million to €244.2 million); more than 40 communities supported in the UK, Sweden, Norway, France and Spain through funding and 201 local projects (compared to 128 local projects in 2021);
- By the end of 2022, the Group’s plants with a significant community engagement programme grew to 46% (40% in 2021);
- 531 thousand tonnes of CO₂ equivalent have been avoided thanks to 3,061 GWh of renewable energy produced, equivalent to almost 8 million tree seedlings grown for 10 years;
- The Group obtained the Sustainability Excellence Certificate in Spain for two new renewables projects, which recognises solar plants developed with the highest standards of social and environmental integration;
- An average of 43.6 hours of training per employee per year was achieved and the number of employees increased by 9% compared to 2021, evidencing Renantis’ commitment to developing human capital;
- Renantis was also confirmed as a Top Employer in 2022, a certification that rewards corporate excellence in corporate policies, strategies and their implementation.
The report highlights the introduction of the first collective benefits scheme in France, to support the implementation of projects proposed by the communities living in the vicinity of the Renantis plant. Funding is distributed through trust funds or associations run independently by local citizens who finance their initiatives with a portion of the revenues generated by the plant. To date, collective benefit schemes are active in 18 of Renantis’ plants in the UK, Sweden, Norway, Spain and France.
2022 for the Group was an important transition year: the evolution from Falck Renewables into Renantis marked the start of a new chapter for the Group’s business. Growth and innovation still drive Renantis, as does the ambition of being the leader of a just energy transition. Most importantly, its commitment to caring for local communities and stakeholders remains at the very core of what the Group does.
“Sustainability is part of our DNA at Renantis and we are pleased to share our sustainability results for 2022 that, once again, demonstrate our commitment to our stakeholders, in particular local communities. As pioneers in the renewable energy sector, we will continue working towards a cleaner world, to build a better future for all by powering people’s everyday lives with care, aware of the great responsibility we have.
“The global energy system is undergoing a rapid transition: by 2030, installed capacity from renewable sources is expected to quadruple to around 1,200 GW. And in 2022, Europe generated record-breaking volumes of wind and solar power, contributing 22% of the European Union’s (EU) electricity production, and surpassing gas for the first time. This presents a real opportunity for Renantis to continue to bring the benefits of renewable energy directly to the people,” said Simona Gambini, Global Head of Communication and Stakeholder Engagement of Renantis.
