Today, the Floating Offshore Wind Community initiative, promoted by TheEuropean House – Ambrosetti, in partnership with Renantis, BlueFloat Energy, Fincantieri and Acciaierie d’Italia, was presented within the 2023 Cernobbio Forum. The project aims to highlight the contribution of floating offshore wind energy to the decarbonisation process in Italy and the technology’s impact on the country’s economy and local supply chains.

CEO of Renantis, Toni Volpe, and BlueFloat Energy’s CEO, Carlos Martin took part in today’s press conference.

Toni Volpe commented, “The development of floating offshore wind energy is an excellent opportunity to enhance our country’s infrastructure and to create growth and investment opportunities for the different players in the industry. With a common objective – Italy’s energy transition and reduced energy dependence – which goes hand in hand with another fundamental goal for our country’s growth: job creation”.

“There are still many obstacles to overcome in the development of floating offshore wind power in Italy. There is a need for certainty regarding the identification of suitable space in the seas of Sicily, Sardinia, and Apulia and operators who have already started to invest here need a clear answer, providing them with definite rules on the development of the technology in these areas”.

“To accelerate the development of floating projects, a clear and structured authorisation process is essential. Legislative Decree 387 of 2003 has not yet been updated and the much hoped-for guidelines have not yet been adopted. In order to speed up the development of our energy infrastructure, the country cannot wait”.

“In these years Renantis has worked to strengthen ties with the local communities and it is making a huge effort to contribute to the development of regional supply chains throughout all project phases. Local areas will benefit from this. Moreover, our supply chain will be safer, allowing for large investments in these areas and the creation of products and skills that can be later exported to other markets”.
